RULES ARE MEANT TO BE BROKEN DEBUNKING (OLD) FASHION BELIEFS

“Certain clothes only look good if you’re tall and skinny” or “You’re too old for wearing
that” – we’ve all heard this before. But times have changed and so should we. We’re saying goodbye to old fashion beliefs that no longer make sense.
that” – we’ve all heard this before. But times have changed and so should we. We’re saying goodbye to old fashion beliefs that no longer make sense.
1. You should get rid of clothes you haven’t worn in a long time
We’ve all been through this: a pile of toss, a pile of keep and a pile of maybe. “Does this jumper bring joy to my life?”, we keep wondering. Yes, we’re all up for a little Marie Kondo in our lives, but should we actually get rid of clothes, even if we haven’t worn them in a long time? The truth is fashion comes back every few years and what didn’t make sense last year, can be the hottest trend this season. After all, how many of us have digged up our mom’s closets to find that one piece of clothing that is so appealing right now. Think square toes, pastel cardigans, 90’s sunglasses. As Coco Chanel so elegantly put it, “fashion changes, but style endures.”
2. Fashion has an expiration date
“Yes, I would totally wear that if I was younger” – the one sentence we’ve all become accustomed to hear. But the truth is age is no longer an excuse to not wear something you love. Think Jennifer Lopez, is there anything that women won’t wear? Yes, yes she’s a celebrity, but she’s still a woman. Think of influencers in their 50s or 60s, like Grece Ghanem or Lyn Slater, gracing fashion weeks and instagram with their amazing style. Come on, it’s time to keep up! Women’s beauty doesn’t have an expiration date and nor should their style.
3. To have a sustainable wardrobe is expensive
Long gone are the days that sustainable clothes came with a big price tag. In fact they may end up being cheaper for your pocket. You will spend less money on trendy “disposable clothes” that will soon be outdated and more money on quality items that will last a lifetime. Thrifting, buying vintage, second-hand apps and raiding your mom’s closet are also great aordable ways to “shop” sustainably. So you can save the planet, without compromising your style. Yes, not all heroes wear capes, they sometimes wear vintage.
4. You can only wear certain types of clothes if you’re tall and skinny
Ashley Graham and Paloma Elsesser will tell you otherwise. Body positivity supermodels have taken over the fashion industry and proven to the world that fashion is for everyone. Sure you can dress designs that favor your body type, but that’s not an excuse to reject bolder styles. It’s time we change our old beliefs: fashion is indeed one size fits all./div>
